✨ Sanding Floors in Design ✨

This week we’re talking about wood floors in design — and honestly, they’re one of the first things I check when I walk into any renovation project. The moment I lift a corner of old carpet, I’m secretly hoping to find beautiful original floorboards underneath. It’s that instant spark that helps me start visualising the potential of a space.

I can’t tell you how excited I get when I see those boards — even when they’re worn, stained, or covered in dust. You can always bring them back to life. It’s hard work, yes, but so worth it. Over the years, I’ve sanded floors in most of my projects (and even convinced a few family members — including grandparents! — to help along the way).

But this post isn’t really about the process of sanding floors. It’s about why they matter.

Because when you bring back original floors, you’re not just restoring timber — you’re uncovering a piece of the home’s story. 🌿

There’s a quiet beauty in natural materials that have already stood the test of time — the grain, the imperfections, the warmth they bring to a space. Once sanded and oiled, they breathe new life into a room and instantly ground your design.

For me, wood floors are the foundation of any great interior — honest, timeless, and deeply connected to the architecture itself. 🖤
